Why motorcycles are handled differently
The whole job is about keeping the bike upright and stable while spreading the load through parts that can take it.
That means loading onto a flat deck rather than dragging it on its wheels, holding the front wheel in a chock so it cannot turn or drop, and securing it with soft straps to solid points on the frame or triple clamps — not through wheels, brake lines, handlebar controls or plastic bodywork.
It also means compressing the front suspension deliberately rather than leaving the bike loose to bounce and shift on the journey.
What to tell us when you call
- The make, model and rough year of the bike
- Roughly what it weighs, or at least whether it is a lightweight, a sportbike, a cruiser or a full dresser
- Whether it rolls and steers, and whether the front brake works
- Whether it has been dropped, and what is damaged
- Whether it has a fairing, hard luggage, crash bars or a sidecar
- Whether it has been lowered, raised or otherwise modified
- Where it is, and what the ground and access are like
- Where it needs to go

Before we arrive
If you are stopped at the roadside, get yourself and the bike as far from moving traffic as you safely can, and make yourself visible.
If the bike is down, only lift it if you can do so without hurting yourself — motorcycles are heavier and more awkward than they look, and a strained back is a poor trade for an upright bike. Leaving it where it lies is fine; we would rather load it from the ground than have you injured.
If you have a key, disc lock key or steering lock key, have it with you. It makes loading considerably easier.

Some machines need particular handling — very heavy touring bikes, trikes, sidecar rigs, and bikes that are badly damaged or will not roll at all.
Describe yours honestly when you call and we will tell you right away whether we can take it. It is far better to know on the phone than to have a truck arrive without the right equipment.
